Matte, Satin, Glossy or Lacquered finish ?

Your choice of a finish only depends on you and the final aspect you wish to achieve for your support. In other words, the choice is yours.

Besides the subjective side for your choice, it is good to know the rendering as well as the pros and cons for each finish.

Matte finish

Rendering : “creamy” or “chalk” like

Ideal surface : ceilings

Other surface: living rooms, dining rooms or bed rooms on any wall that is not fragile

Pros : reduce surface irregularities and defects, underline simplicity

Cons : not a very warm finish, attract dust and non-washable

Tip : avoid using this finish for humid rooms because of risk fungus development

Satin finish

Rendering : silky, warm

Ideal surface : wood surfaces and frequently used rooms

Other surface : doors, living rooms

Pros : washable and easy maintenance

Cons : may leave brush traces

Tip : do not use this finish to even up a surface, use the satin finish next to a wall with a matte finish to accentuate the satin effect

Glossy finish

Rendering : bright

Ideal surface : kitchen, bathroom or any room involving water

Other surface : door or furniture

Pros : make the room look bigger, good shock resistance when applied on wood, easily washable

Cons : accentuate defects

Tip : use a glossy finish to highlight architectural features. Underline satin finished woodwork by using a glossy finish on the frame

Do not use a glossy finish on a rough surface.

Lacquered finish

Rendering : mirror like brightness, deep and bright

Ideal surface : any support without defects

Cons : defects are easily seen because of the induced shaded effect on any irregularity

Tip : only use on a defect free surface
